Three days later, I’m back to being a ghost. Danny was gone by the time I woke up and I haven’t heard from him since — and I haven’t seen him, either. It’s like he’s avoiding me at all costs... and though I would’ve begged for this a few days ago, I have a hole in my chest now.

I’ve never been so lost in my life. My emotions are out of control, I feel like I’m six seconds away from a complete meltdown, and Morgan doesn’t understand a word that comes out of my mouth when I try to explain it. To be fair, I don’t think I understand it myself, but Danny Hayes has gotten completely under my skin.

And he’s still all over it, too.

My robe is open as I stand in front of our mirror, tracing the bruises he left on my skin. The marks covering my tits, trailing down my stomach. The hickeys all over the inside of my thighs, the fingerprints so clearly dotting my hips that I could probably be used as evidence if he ever committed a crime.

I can’t feel him inside of me anymore... that ache finally receded last night, so I take a shuddering, deep breath and pinch myself overtop of those bruises to remind myself that he was here. I know how crazy that is, but no one can see me. No one has to know, and soon, even these bruises will be gone. I won’t have a single sign on my body that he marked his territory, that he claimed me as his.

Tears well in my eyes as I tie my robe again and collapse on my bed. The urge to text him hasn’t been this strong since right after Owen told me the truth and I wanted to beg him to tell me it was a lie — but I won’t do it. I have to protect myself here, and protecting myself includes staying as far away from Danny Fucking Hayes as I possibly can.

If only I could transfer universities.
